Gordon
I know it is heavy on Marches but that is what we have at the moment and after all we are raising money for the SOUSA festival

Some were asking what I had in mind for Our Concert in Washington, Here is my current thinking on that

Bullets and Bayonets [ it is a Sousa Festival after all ]
National Emblem [ Our home town boy so to speak ]
Sunshine Overture [ Our guy has extra talent too! ]
Proud Spirit [ One of our favorite composers ]
John Williams in Concert [ Nice stuff, but I may need to sub something else ]
Temple Band March [ Why not this is OUR march ]
God Bless America [ Our traditional close before SSF which I don’t want to do in this venue ]

The Massed Bands will do
Light Cavalry
Buglers Holiday
Stars and Strips
Irving Berlin Symphonic Portrait
Washington post
George Washington Bicentennial
America the Beautiful

I think I’m missing a couple

Marching Instructions: 2008-Present

Please keep your uniform, uniform,
This means no embellishment unless it is been cleared through a board member.
Small flags on your horn are OK, as are other small ornamental instrument paraphernalia.
Please limit the pins on your hat to those issued by the band and an optional American Flag.
For Memorial day ONLY if you are a veteran you may: Wear your military uniform and or put your service ribbons on your hat.
With all that being said if for some reason you lost a piece of uniform or something, come anyway dressed as close as you are able, we will understand.

Standard marching:
Left foot is ALWAYS beat 1 of a measure
Maintain about 3 feet between members in rows
Stay about 3 feet behind the person in front of you

We turn in big Cartwheels; the person on the inside takes small steps
The person on the outside takes big steps
Resist the temptation to start the turn too early, watch where the row in front turned and hold off until then
After the row has made the turn step off a little big to make room

Whistles
When you are just milling around waiting for the parade to start and hear a LONG LOUD WHISTLE it means I want your attention. Stop what you are doing and gather around me.
I will put you in marching formation about 10 min before step off

When we are in marching formation but not doing anything a LONG WHISTLE means come to attention and get ready to march
When at attention in formation 4 short whistles in tempo will set the pace and get a street beat.
Begin to mark time (march in place) The next 4 short whistles is Forward March, step forward on beat 5
If we are Marching a LONG whistle and arm waving overhead is calling for a roll off.
When the drums do the roll off play the next song.
I will declare what songs we will do before the march.
When you have played them all, start over again.

When we are marching and get 4 short whistles it means to stop forward progress and begin to mark time.
If we are marking time and I blow a long then short it means I will stop the drums soon and you stop marking time with them.
Stay in formation until I either start us up again or give a dismissal.

Anything else that comes up I will get attention with a loud semi long whistle and will... YELL AT YOU... what I want. Its officially called Voice Command.
